At the present time there is no regular maintenance provided by the Ayuntamiento at the Galera although they have confirmed to us that the Galera is no longer considered by them to be a ‘Private’ urbanisation. We are, therefore, technically within the ambit of the Ayuntamiento’s responsibility. The old problem of ‘adopted’ or ‘not adopted’ went back many years to the time when the Galera was originally developed by Mr Jaime Cortes and we took up this very important matter with the Ayuntamiento during 2012. They acknowledged to us that there is no such thing as a ‘Private’ urbanisation so the Galera is definitely an accepted part of the Altea municipality. We have to emphasise, however, that whereas the previously existing ‘Galpalm’ association was supposed to have been paying a man to spend four hours each day engaged in communal maintenance work, we rarely saw this man at all and, indeed, never above the autopista bridge. We surmise that this man may possibly have spent much of his time and Galpalm monies working privately for one of the then existing officers. Now, volunteers from Palmeras de Altea have been pro-active during 2012 through to now – 2019 – and have done much heavy work themselves clearing roadside rubbish, improving road surfaces, mending potholes, purchasing and placing many new signs in the communal interest and we will continue to seek to improve our environment. This is how some of our members’ financial contributions have been spent. We have to point out that in the current financial climate in Spain in general and in the province of Valencia in particular, there are no Ayuntamiento monies available for us to successfully pressurise further public monies to be spent on the Galera so we are effectively a self-help community. Please pay your membership fee of only €150 per annum.
